Governance

Welcome from our Chair of Governors

My name is Jo Bennett and I have the pleasure of being elected Chair of Governors to Trafalgar School. I have been part of the Local Governing Body (LGB) since 2015 when I joined the LGB as a parent governor. My children are both now at college and I am now a Director appointed governor on the LGB.

I am currently Assistant Director of Housing Need and Supply for Portsmouth City Council and have worked within the housing service for over 22 years, I am a safeguarding lead for my service.

My aim is to support Mrs Copeland and the Trafalgar community to provide the very best education and opportunities for its pupils ensuring that we keep our core values of respect, community, resilience, aspiration and inclusion at the heart of everything we do.

The Governing Body’s purpose is to ensure that Trafalgar School has a clear vision, ethos and strategic direction that provides a safe, caring and stimulating environment where every child can realise their potential. We hold the Executive Headteacher and the Senior Leadership Team to account for the educational outcomes of the school each year, as well as overseeing the financial performance of the school. The LGB is made up of 11 Governors, and as a group we report to the Salterns Academy Trust.

As Governors, we fully support the Executive Head Teacher's clear and ambitious vision for Trafalgar school. We are committed to supporting the school and do this through an active involvement in the daily life of the school where appropriate and by working closely with the Schools Senior Leadership Team. We believe passionately that every child has a right to an outstanding education and believe that the schools bold, balanced and equitable curriculum is ambitious for all of our children. A focus on developing the whole child ensures that children leave Trafalgar not only ready for their next educational steps but with the skills they need to draw upon to be successful in society, their career and their adult lives.

The Governors and I look forward to meeting you at the many school events and encourage all parents to become an active part of the Trafalgar School Community.  We will endeavour to include the views of students, teachers, parents, and the wider community in our governance work. Therefore, if you have a query, an idea or want to help improve our school, please contact the school, and make your views known.  In addition, you can contact the Chair of Governors through the following email: ChairofGovernors@trafalgarschool.org.uk.
